Police scan nation for possible trail of crimes

Abilene police are contacting law enforcement agencies in five states
to make sure Renata Antoinette Monet did not leave a trail of crime
after moving from city to city and state to state.
One week ago, Karen Lee Johnson, 61, pastor of Unity Church of
Christianity, was fatally stabbed in an attack by Monet, 61, of Abilene,
police said. Police have declined to give the details of what they have
said is a horrific crime.
Monet, formerly known as Bobby Allan La’Loge, changed her name
legally on Jan. 22, 2009 — exactly one year before the brutal slaying.
Police called the crime a murder/suicide, explaining Monet planned to
kill Johnson, who went to counsel Monet late Friday afternoon. Police
believe Monet attacked Johnson after she entered the home.
Police are combing through Monet’s chilling writings on a Web site
where she blogged and are contacting other agencies where she lived in
Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Missouri. Monet’s personal Web
site indicates — in her earlier life as a male — she fantasized about
killing women when she was as young as 10 years old.
“We are exploring all possibilities including the possibility of
other cases,” said Sgt. Lynn Beard, the lead investigator on the case.
“We want to cover all of our bases.”
Beard said the task of contacting other agencies is definitely
arduous.
“It will take a lot of time,” he said.
