A 12 & 15 year old are accussed of murdering one of their stepfathers. This is not the first case of this nature but I always find them to be disturbing. I have to wonder what went on in their heads when this sounded like a good idea to them.
I have mixed feelings as well as to whether this belongs in the juvenile or adult system. I undertstand the concept of the juvenile system. Kids make bad choices. They can be dealt with differently and if problems are addressed early then they have a chance of moving past it and not being branded as a criminal for the rest of their lives. In most cases I agree. A 12 year old shoplifiting for example is different than an adult committing the same crime.
In cases of murder I tend to lean the other way. A murder never goes away regardless of the age of the perpetrator.
