    This is a riot:

Red Onion State Prison, where they have taken the "corrections" out of the Virginia Corrections Department.

So it's just the Virginia Department now? What's so bad about that?

(i'll go read the rest now Smile )

It'a a tough place; they don't care about rehabilitation they just house the prisoners and will shoot them if they get out of line. This is going to be a lifetime of hell.

    http://www.vadoc.virginia.gov/offenders/locator/index.cfm

He is not listed at all on the Dept of Corrections inmate locator site..but I'll beleive you.

Sussex 1 is where death row is. That in and of itself means nothing it is just an odd irony. He narrowly escaped a death sentence and off all the prisons in the state gets sent to the one that houses death row.

I definitely thought the article made it sound like one of the "offerings" for prisoners. WTF??

I looked on line and tried to find out more about the firing range. I did not find anything else. It is poorly worded but I have to believe it is there for officer training. Most correctional officers do not carry firearms but some do in certain situations. The officers that transport prisoners between facilites are armed.
