    all men are created equal? Empty all men are created equal?

    Yes this is from the Declaration of Independence. 1776
    I was playing on line a little bit today and found some dates which I think are interesting.
    1954 Brown v. Board of Education ruled the segregation in public schools was unconstitutial..or in other words prior to 1954 it was legally permitted.
    1967 Loving v. Virgina ruled that states could not ban interracial marriage.. or in other words prior to 1967 states could ban marriages based upon race. 16 states had to change their laws when this decision came out.
    1968 Civil Rights Act of 1968 prohibits discrimiation with regards to the sale, rental, or financing of a home.. or in other words prior to 1968 it was permitted to sell , rent, or finance to only members of a certain ethnic background.
    1973 American Psychiatric Assoc removed homosexuality from its list of "disorders"..you probably get the style by now. Prior to 1973 medical professionals considered being gay an illness.
    1993 Don't Ask Don't Tell - apparently for the previous 217 years there were no gays in the military.
    2000 Vermont is the first state to recognize same sex unions. They still don't call it marriage. This was only 10 years ago.
    2003 The U.S. Supreme Court rules in Lawrence v. TX that sodomy laws in the U.S. are unconstitutional. Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote, “Liberty presumes an autonomy of self that includes freedom of thought, belief, expression, and certain intimate conduct.”..seriously 7 years ago.
    Why were these issues legal arguments in a nation founded on the ideals that all "men" are equal and entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Did the founders mean all men or all men like them? Certainly social norms have evolved over time. Where do we go from here?
