I liked it - but see if you can guess why I didn't like the ending...

Re: The power of movies
I guess this could go in a variety of places...
I'm currently watching a documentary about Norwegian Black Metal on the Sundance Channel. It is called Until The Light Takes Us. Black Metal, specifically the band Mayhem, was brought up back at WS. Some people here might find this documentary interesting.

Re: The power of movies
did you read the book scott? I love the movie but I think the book was so much better, the book goes so much deeper into the emotions of the family....the whole background of the killer is left out and her mom's story isn't in the movie at all...

Re: The power of movies
...the movie seems to leave out parts that are just a bit controversial...in the book Susie's mom has an affair with the detective,Rachel Weisz is a great actress I was looking forward to see her perform, instead they just cut out that whole part...the book deals a lot with raciscm the family of Susie's indian boyfriend has to endure because in the eyes of the neighborhood he's guilty...the movie concentrates more on hunting down the killer, when Mr.Harvey dies the people at the movie theatre I was at actually got up and gave a standing ovation ,that scene in the book is a tiny paragraph,it's not important, the reader learns a lot about Mr.Harvey and has almost forgiven him at that point.Karma takes care of Mr.Harvey.The book is about a family that falls apart but love endures in the end...
I love all 3 books she wrote so far...the first one "Lucky" is her own account of when she was raped in college...the latest one "Almost moon" is about a woman that kills her 80 year old mother again she goes deeply into the emotional fabric of a family .....

Re: The power of movies
I just ran into a website for a hilarious movie project. Here's their description of what they are doing.
"Hello! You and 472 other people have the chance to recreate Star Wars: A New Hope. Below is the entire movie split up into 15 second clips. Click on one of the scenes to claim it, film it, and upload it. You can have up to three scenes! When we're all done, we'll stitch it all together and watch the magic happen."

here are a few segments

Based on your recommendation, I just checked out Almost Moon and reserved Lovely Bones. The librarian agreed with you 100% regarding the movie versus book. Thanks!

Re: The power of movies
I hope you enjoy them Kay !!!
I like the little StarWars clips,I wished each one would be at least around 3min though,it'll be cool to see the different styles stitched together...
....see if we'd each write a chapter of the book it would be like that also...

Re: The power of movies
WOW!
This is one of the weirdest movie trailers I've ever seen. Mrs. Blou isn't particularly excited, but I think I need to see this one.
I read about it in a review entitled "'The Human Centipede' Scarred Me for Life -- But You Should See It Anyway" http://insidemovies.moviefone.com/2010/04/27/the-human-centipede-scarred-me-for-life-you-should-see-anyway/
Let that be a warning regarding watching the trailer. I'd say not safe for work, but it's not really safe for anywhere you don't want people to think you are a total freak.

Re: The power of movies
I just watched The Lovely Bones last night. I was a bit disappointed. I did not read the book and probably won't. I just didn't think the story line of the other daughter was believable and it was way too "loose ended" for me. I need more than karma sometimes to feel closure. Did not like it.

Re: The power of movies
Has anyone seen "The Fourth Kind"? The "documentary footage" is a work of fiction but I thought the movie was well done and raises some intersting questions.

Re: The power of movies
I loved that movie. So many movies today are just repeat of some other story - or a movie made from a TV show. Hollywood has lost it's imagination but I thought this particular movie was creatively shot and an interesting story. I watched Avatar last night and was impressed with the CGI but the characters were way too cliche and the story was overblown and lame.

Trailer for Shutter Island. I just saw this last night. Wow. Very well done. It was not scary. I would describe it more as sad. It is the kind f movie you need to actively engage in to follow.
